In 2002 the Fort Wayne Fire Department built Fire Station 12. The station is fully staffed with eight firefighters and houses one engine and one ladder. Engine 12 is a 2006 Class A Triple Combination American LaFrance which carries 1,000 gallons of water and is capable of pumping 1,250 gallons of water per minute (GPM). Truck 12 is a 2001 100-foot Pierce Aerial Ladder. Both units protect the south side of Fort Wayne. Station 12 houses the Grass Rig, a Chevy 3/4 Ton Pick Up Truck with a Booster tank in the bed and hoseline which enables the Fire Department to travel across grassy areas for brush fires, and, an Insulation Extractor. The station also has a community room that can be used by the public. You may reserve the room by calling 427-1168.
