Gaywood Ave. House Fire

January 17, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 4005 Gaywood Ave.  Upon arrival crews found the vacant home fully involved with fire extending to the occupied homes north and south of the fire house.  Neighbors in these houses had already self-evacuated.  Fire crews immediately applied water and were able to minimize and stop the fire spread.  No injuries were reported.

Based on witness accounts, there was an explosion prior to the resulting fire. While firefighters did not witness the described explosion, based on the information collected, the debris field and the fact the fire was natural gas fed, it does appear to be a gas related fire.  The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
