• Public Storage Fire

    December 24, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at Public Storage at 1801 Coliseum Blvd.  Crews arrived and found heavy smoke coming from multiple storage units in one building.  After forcing entry to the affected units, crews were able to confine and control the fire.  No injuries were reported. The structure sustained moderate fire and water damage and heavy smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Eastwick Dr. Apartment Fire

    December 24, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible structure fire in the 5200 block of Eastwick Dr.  Crews arrived on scene and saw light smoke coming from the roof vents of the two story apartment complex.  Firefighters made entry and located the fire in the wall between two apartments on the second floor.  While crews extinguished the blaze other firefighters ensured everyone had safely evacuated.  Eight people were home but self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported. The two affected apartments had moderate fire, smoke and water damage. 

  • West Fourth St. House Fire

    December 11, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible house fire in the 1700 block of West Fourth Street.  Firefighters arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the open front door and the home's only occupant already outside.  Crews made entry and located the fire in the kitchen area of the one story home.  The blaze was placed under control in six minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The structure sustained moderate fire, water and smoke damage. 

  • Monroe St. House Fire

    December 7, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire in the 2900 block of Monroe St.  First arriving crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the two story home.  Crews made entry and located the fire in the living room area and were able to quickly extinguish it.  No one was home at the time of the blaze.  The structure sustained heavy fire and smoke damage with moderate water damage.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Trier Road House Fire

    November 29, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to the 6600 block of Trier Road for a possible structure fire.  Crews arrived on scene and were met by the home's occupant already outside and smoke visible from the attic area of the one story home.  Firefighters made entry and found insulation burning in the attic area.  While the fire was quickly extinguished, crews removed a large section of the ceiling and insulation was extracted to ensure the fire was out.  The structure sustained moderate fire, water and smoke damage. No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

  • Windsor Woods Blvd. House Fire

    Windsor Woods 2December 30, 2013 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to a structure fire after neighbors called to report smoke coming from the eaves of the home at 10722 Windsor Woods Blvd. Arriving crews immediately made entry to search for occupants and found heavy fire coming from the basement, first and second floor of the home. As firefighters worked to locate and control the fire their efforts were hampered by the large amount of personal belongings and storage boxes throughout the structure.   Due to the structure's compromised integrity, firefighters moved outside to fight the fire defensively. One firefighter was evaluated at the scene after falling through the floor. He was quickly returned to service. The homeowners were not home at the time of the blaze and no further injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. TRAA, FWPD, Neighborhood Code, Nipsco and AEP assisted at the scene.

  • Brentwood Ave. House Fire

    December 26, 2013 - Two people, an adult and child, self-evacuated their home after waking  to the smell of smoke and hearing their smoke detectors activated.  The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to the 3800 block of Brentwood and arrived to find smoke and flames at the front side of the one story home.  The fire was quickly extinguished but the structure sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.  The Red Cross was called to assist the family. 

  • Sherwood Terrace House Fire

    December 26, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) was called about a possible structure fire at 1016 Sherwood Terrace.  On arrival crews found heavy smoke throughout the one story home.  Crews were able to locate the fire and quickly extinguish it.  The structure sustained moderate fire and water damage with heavy smoke damage throughout the home.  No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.   

  • Decatur Road Mobile Home Fire

    November 28, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 7555 Decatur Road.  Crews arrived to find a mobile home fully involved.  Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and protect the neighboring homes.  No one was home at the time of the blaze but two pets did perish.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Enterprise Lane Building Fire

    November 27, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to an alarm at 2211 Enterprise Lane.  On arrival, crews found the sprinkler system activated and smoke throughout the one story building.  Crews entered the building and found a manufacturing machine and pallet of product on fire.  The sprinkler system was able to contain the fire until firefighters arrived and extinguished.  While the building sustained minor fire damage, there was moderate smoke and water damage.  No one was inside at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Maysville Road Church Fire

    December 31, 2012 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a fire alarm at 10145 Maysville Road. Enroute, crews were advised from police on scene fire was visible. Upon arrival firefighters made entry to Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church and encountered heavy smoke with little to zero visibility throughout the building. Due to the structure size and construction, additional crews and resources were requested. After a brief search, firefighters were able to locate the fire in the sanctuary area of the church and were able to quickly contain the fire preventing further fire extension into other rooms/areas of the building. The fire was placed under control in less than an hour.   Extensive overhaul was necessary. A fire crew remains on scene for fire watch ensuring no rekindle. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. One was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. TRAA, FWPD, AEP and Nipsco assisted at the scene.

  • Lillie Street House Fire

    December 28, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire at 4512 Lillie Street.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the home.  Crews made entry and determined no one was home.  Using an aggressive interior attack, firefighters were able to locate the fire in the front living room of the house with extension to an adjoining room and attic area.  Crews contained the blaze and were able to extinguish it in 10 minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Wilt Street House Fire

    December 25, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 829 Wilt Street.  First arriving crews found fire and smoke coming from the second floor of the two story duplex.  Crews made entry and were able to contain the fire to the bathroom and dining area of the home and extinguish it in 16 minutes.  The structure was vacant.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

  • Historic House Burns

    December 23, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible structure fire at 1122 W. Wayne Street. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the third story of the structure with all residents already self-evacuated. Crews made entry and determined the fire to be in the third floor knee walls with heavy extension into attic area. While crews made an aggressive interior attack, they were at one point forced outside to fight the fire defensively due to deteriorating conditions and possible compromised structural integrity.   Firefighters were able to gain some control of the fire and returned to their interior attack.

    The structure is a three story home split into five units. Three units had occupants at home at the time of the fire and all escaped without injury. Residents reported two cats were missing. Firefighters did find and rescue one cat this afternoon. The second cat remains unaccounted for.

    The structure sustained heavy fire, water and smoke damage throughout and extensive overhaul was necessary.   No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

  • Blackhawk Lane House Fire

    December 22, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived on scene of a possible house fire at 7017 Blackhawk Lane.  On arrival crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic area of the house.  Crews were able to make entry and extinguish the fire.  Extensive overhaul was necessary to ensure spot fires were extinguished.  Two people were home at the time of blaze but were able to self-evacuate safely prior to FWFD's arrival. The casue of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Rudisill House Fire

    December 15, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a reported house fire at 706 E. Rudisill.  Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from a second floor window.  Firefighters made entry to the home and found a small fire in a second floor bedroom.  They were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire.  Two occupants were at home but managed to self-evacuate without injury prior to FWFD's arrival.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Hunters Knoll Run

    December 13, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible structure fire at 8413 Hunters Knoll Run.  Upon arrival crews found heavy fire on the exterior of the 2 story home.  The fire started in the fire place area and extended into the attic above the garage.  Fire crews made an interior aggressive attack and were able to contain and extinguish the fire.  Five people were home at the time of the blaze and were able to self-evacuate prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported.    Red Cross was called to assist the home's residents.  The home did have working smoke detectors. 

  • Garage Fire

    December 3, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire 717 Florence Ave.  When crews arrived they found a detached garage fully involved.  Crews were able to extinguish the fire in nine minutes without any extension to nearby structures.  No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Getz Road House Fire

    December 3, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2230 Getz Road early this morning.  The occupant of the home reported he awoke to smoke in the home and self-evacuated prior to the Fire Department's arrival.  Crews made entry and extinguished the fire which started in the walkout basement of the home and extended to the upper level.  The structure sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.  There were no injuries; however a family pet cat remains unaccounted for.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Hartford House Fire

    December 2, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 5713 Hartford Drive.  On arrival crews found light smoke coming from the rear of the two story residential structure.  The home's occupants were already outside when fire crews arrived.  Firefighters quickly made entry, located and extinguished the fire in 18 minutes.  One dog was rescued.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Updated - John Street Apartment Fire

    December 18, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6727 John Street just after 3 p.m. on Sunday.  Upon arrival heavy fire and smoke was found coming from the first floor of the two story apartment unit.  The fire was contained to the first floor apartment with some extension to the attic area.  Two occupants were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector and were able to self-evacuate.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze was ruled accidental caused by a juvenile playing with matches/lighter.

  • Hartford Fire

    December 3, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported garage fire at 4515 Hartford Dr.  Upon arrival crews found heavy fire coming from the garage and family room of the house.   One person was home at the time of the fire but was able to self-evacuate.  While the fire was contained and extinguished, the house suffered heavy smoke and fire damage.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Winter Street House Fire

    November 30, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 5435 Winter Street.  Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the home.  Fire was located in the bedroom and was contained and extinguished.  Four occupants were home at the time of the fire and were alerted by smoke detectors enabling them to self-evacuate.  No injuries were reported.  The fire's cause remains under investigation.

    Smoke Alarms

    The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) is offering a new Smoke Alarm Distribution Program that is a need-based program using Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Income Guidelines to provide smoke alarms in homes for those that would not be able to afford them.
