• 5800 Lassiter Mill Pl. House Fire

    July 7, 2016 - Fire crews arrived to find fire on the exterior of the garage extending to the attic of the garage from the outside. Fire crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and extinguished it. The house was cleared and smoke was removed from the structure. The neighbor’s garage had fire damage to the siding. The fire was brought under control in less the 14 minutes. The fire department was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, NISPCO, AEP, and NCE. The fire is under investigation.

  • 4400 Highwood Dr. House Fire

    July 7, 2016 – An occupant trapped in the bathroom called the fire dept.; upon arrival he was found hanging out his bathroom window. The fire dept. removed him from the house through the window and attacked the fire. Moderate damage was done to the home by the fire. The victim was uninjured and there were no other injuries reported. The fire is under investigation.

  • 7300 Blackhawk Ln. House Fire

    July 6, 2016 - Crews were dispatched on reported house fire. On arrival first in crew found heavy fire in rear of structure. Extending into second floor and attic area crews could not enter structure due to the structure being compromised from heavy fire involvement and previous fire damage Master streams from Truck one were needed to extinguish fire. House was vacant and no Firefighters were injured.  FWPD, TRAA assisted the FWFD. The fire remains under investigation.

  • 2700 Alexander St. House Fire

    July 5, 2016 - Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire with multiple calls. On arrival they found flames through the roof and a fully involved attic fire in a one-story home in the 2700 block of Alexander St. The house next door had siding that was starting to melt as crews initially began to flow water; that house was saved with no additional damage. The roof was burned off before the fire was placed under control. Extensive overhaul was required to totally extinguish the fire but the building had sustained substantial damage. The FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, AEP, The FT Wayne Water Dept. and NCE. The fire remains under investigation.

  • 4600 Euclid St House Fire

    July 18, 2015 - Fort Wayne Firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 4600 block of Euclid Ave. The first crews on scene found the majority of a cape cod type home engulfed in flames. The entire rear roof line had burnt thru and had flames reaching twenty feet into the air. There were two bedrooms on the first floor that were not completely engulfed in fire. Two crews were assigned to make entry into these rooms using a high risk tactic known as Vent-Enter-Search, in this operation firefighters make entry thru exterior windows while firefighters on the exterior direct hose streams over their heads to hold back the flames. No victims were found in these areas. An adult victim was found deceased in one of the heavily burnt areas, after the fire was extinguished. Firefighters remain at the address to extinguish spot fires as the scene is surveyed by investigators. The fire remains under investigation.

  • Michaels Beauty Supply Building Fire

    July 10, 2015 - A fire was located at 3309 E State Blvd. Michaels Beauty Supply. The fire did minimal damage to the structure but heat and heavy smoke damage was reported to all 3 businesses in the building. The smoke extended to Big Ricks BBQ just west and to Pearls Palace just east of the involved business. The fire remains under investigation.

  • 1000 Kensington Blvd House Fire

    June 27, 2017 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire reported by neighbors in 1000 block of Kensington Blvd. On arrival Truck 1 found fire on the exterior of the home, they entered the structure to search for possible victims and extinguish the fire. A fire was found in the kitchen which had extended to the attic and outside of the structure. Four pets were found, of which 3 perished and one was treated by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority Medics then transported by Fort Wayne Animal Control for further care. No persons were in the house and no one was injured during operations at this incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • 6000 N. Clinton House Fire

    June 27, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire that was reported by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the eaves of the house in 6000 block of North Clinton. FWFD Engine 13 arrived within 2 minutes of being dispatched. The structure was immediately searched for any occupants and a fire was extinguished in an attached garage. No one was found to be in the structure at the time of this incident and no Fire Department injuries occurred. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • 5000 Devonshire Dr. House Fire

    June 26, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in 5000 block of Devonshire Dr. when crews arrived heavy fire and smoke was coming from the rear of the structure. All of the occupants were out of the structure when the Fire Department arrived. It took the Fire Department 16 minutes to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • Gas Line Hit - Dupont Circle Court

    July 30, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the ENT clinic at 10021 Dupont Circle Court after tenants detected the odor of natural gas at 7:52 this morning. On arrival firefighters were notified constructions crews working on Auburn Road had hit a gas line and had already notified Nipsco. Fire crews evacuated the building (approximately 70 staff and patients) as a precautionary measure. Crews also checked neighboring buildings and evacuated approximately 12 staff at OMSA (10008 Dupont Circle Court) after an odor was detected. Ongoing metering at both buildings showed no elevated levels at either facility but they remained closed as a safety measure. The exit ramp from 469 to Auburn Road, southbound Auburn Road at Dupont Circle Drive and Auburn Road northbound at Wallen Road were closed while Nipsco worked the scene. Nipsco located the ruptured line. Roads and business were reopened at 10:33.

  • Ardmore Ave. Building Fire

    July 26, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6301 Ardmore Ave.  On arrival they found a one story vacant/abandoned commercial structure with smoke and flames visible.  Firefighters used a defensive attack and were able to save two thirds of the building.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Fairfield Ave. House Fire

    July 25, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the 5000 block of Fairfield Ave.  When crews arrived, the two occupants of the home were already safely outside.  Heavy smoke and fire was visible coming from the second story and roof area of the house.  Firefighters made entry, located the fire and were able to bring it under control in less than 20 minutes.  The structure sustained moderate fire damage and heavy smoke and water damage.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Rivermet Apartment Fire

    July 23, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of smoke inside a structure in the 900 block of Rivermet this morning.  Upon arrival, crews found fire in an interior wall cavity on the 2 floor with some extension into the attic area. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and called for the extractor to remove insulation from the attic.  All six occupants of the quadplex had self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival and no injuries were reported.  The two story home sustained minor fire, water and smoke damage.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Eliza St. House Fire

    July 19, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 1100 block of Eliza St.  It was reported all occupants and pets had already evacuated the two story home.  First arriving crews found fire on the first floor's front room.  Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and bring it under control in six minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The structure sustained moderate fire and water damage with heavy smoke damage throughout the house.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • S. Monroe Street Fire

    July 13, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 3:39 a.m. in the 3000 block of S Monroe Street.  First arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from three sides of the two story house.  Crews aggressively battled the fire from the exterior until they could make entry to search for occupants. It was determined no one was inside.  After 40 minutes, firefighters were able to place the fire under control.  The structure sustained heavy damage and its integrity had been compromised.  It was razed later that morning.  Nipsco, AEP, Neighborhood Code, TRAA and FWPD assisted at the scene.  No injuries were reported. 

  • Cass St. House Fire

    July 8, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the 1500 block of Cass Street. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a first floor window of the two story home. Fire had also extended up the side of the house into the attic area and was threatening a neighboring home. While some firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze, others were able to determine the home's occupants, one adult and one child had self-evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival. The blaze was brought under control within 12 minutes and no injuries were reported. The home sustained heavy smoke, water and fire damage. Due to its close proximity, one neighboring home's exterior siding sustained fire damage, too. Fire Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature caused by a juvenile playing with a lighter.

  • Dale Drive House Fire

    July 5, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire in the 2200 block of Dale Drive.  Upon arrival, crews found fire coming from the rear of the structure. Crews quickly searched the one story home and determined no one was inside while other firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  The home sustained heavy damage. 

  • Standish Drive House Fire

    July 5, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 5300 block of Standish Dr. The caller, one of five people at the home at the time of the blaze, reported heavy smoke and flames were visible but everyone inside was able to evacuate safely. Crews arrived on scene and were able to locate, contain and extinguish the fire in living room area of the two story structure. The home sustained moderate fire damage with heavy water and smoke damage throughout. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • Riverside Ave. Detached Garage Fire

    July 2, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a detached garage fire in the 600 block of Riverside Ave.  First units to arrive found smoke coming from the front area of the garage.  After forcing entry crews were able to control the fire in 16 minutes.  Two dogs were found crated inside the garage but were rescued unharmed.  The structure sustained heavy damage.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

  • Kirkland Ave. House Fire

    KirklandJuly 1, 2014 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3530 Kirkland Ave. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home's roof area. Crews made entry and located heavy fire throughout the attic area of the house. Firefighters called for the insulation extractor and remain on scene to ensure all fire/hotspots are extinguished. The house is vacant and had a "for sale" sign in the yard. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  FWPD, Nipsco, AEP, Neighborhood Code and TRAA assisted at the scene.

  • High Point Drive House Fire

    July 28, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire in the 6400 block of High Point Dr. Upon arrival crews found fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home extending into the attic areas of the structure. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and were able to control the spread after 25 minutes. One neighboring house suffered minor damage due to the heat from the fire. Three firefighters were taken to a local hospital in good condition after a ceiling collapsed on them. No injuries to the home's four occupants were reported. They were able to self-evacuate prior to the FWFD's arrival. The structure sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. FWPD, TRAA, AEP and Nipsco assisted on scene.

  • FWFD is Hiring 15 Firefighters

    Hiring1July 8, 2013 - Today, with the support of Mayor Tom Henry, Fort Wayne Fire Department’s (FWFD) Fire Chief Amy Biggs announced applications for 15 City firefighter positions are now being accepted. Interested candidates should visit the FWFD’s website at www.fortwaynefiredepartment.org.

    The hiring announcement comes shortly after the Fort Wayne City Council approved the Fiscal Policy’s Group and City supported recommendation to hire 15 new recruits.

     

    “The FWFD is excited to announce applications are now being accepted,” said Fire Chief Biggs. “The application is the first step in pursing an amazing career devoted to serving Fort Wayne and providing outstanding fire, medical, rescue and prevention services to the residents and visitors of our city.”

  • St. Joe Road House Fire

    July 4, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible structure fire at 6314 St. Joe Road just before 6 pm.  When the first crews arrived they were met by the home owner and occupants outside the one story structure who safely evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival.  Firefighters entered the home and located the fire in the kitchen area with some extension into the attic area.  Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.  The structure sustained moderate fire and water damage and heavy smoke damage.  The Red Cross was called to assist the home's occupants.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • House Fire on Home Ave.

    July 31, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 819 Home Ave.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the two story residential structure.  No one was home at the time of the blaze that took 58 minutes to bring under control.  The structure sustained heavy smoke, fire and water damage.  One firefighter received minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

  • South Barr Street House Fire

    July 19, 2012 -  Four people escaped serious injury after escaping a house fire early this morning.  The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire with people trapped at 3737 South Barr Street.  Crews arrived in less than a minute from the initial call to find fire venting from a window on the first floor and occupants outside.  Firefighters attended to the victims, as well as advanced hose lines to extinguish the fire.  The fire was under control in 11 minutes.

    The adult occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and self-rescued themselves and two small children by dropping the children from a second floor window to bystanders.  The adults then jumped from the second floor window.  All four occupants were transported by TRAA to a local hospital in stable condition. 

    The fire was caused by an electrical malfunction to the power cord on a window air conditioning unit located on the first floor.  The structure sustained moderate fire and water damage and heavy smoke damage.  The FWFD was assisted on scene by TRAA and the FWPD.

  • Bayer Ave. House Fire

    July 14, 2012 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to multiple calls of an explosion with a house leveled at 1701 Bayer Ave.  Crews arrived within minutes to confirm the reports.  One person was home at the time and was already pulled to safety when firefighters arrived. That individual was transported to the hospital.  No identification or condition is available at this time.  Crews worked set a debris barrier as multiple houses and cars were affected. No other injuries were reported. Crews remain on the scene and are working with Nipsco, AEP and Neighborhood code as equipment is brought in to remove debris and extinguish any residual fire.  Investigators are continuing to probe the cause.  Any further updates will be reported as they become available.  TRAA and FWPD assisted at the scene.

  • Shoaff Park Brush Fire

    July 14, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire at Shoaff Park. Upon arrival crews identified the large fire to the storm debris collection site in the park where heavy flames were visible. Firefighters witnessed the fire's encroachment to the forest directly behind the pile. Crews were able to push back the flames, contain it to the debris pile and put the fire under control. The fire department is currently working with both the Parks Department and the Street Department who brought in heavy loader apparatus to move the pile and break it apart enabling the Fire Department to continue to extinguish any remaining fire and hot spots throughout the morning. No injuries were reported. The fire's cause remains under investigation.  

  • House Fire on W. Maple Grove

     July 2, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 429 W. Maple Grove.  Upon arrival crews found the rear of the structure fully involved extending to the siding of both neighboring houses on each side.  Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and limit the damage to the neighbors’ homes.  The fire house did suffer extensive damage.  The two homeowners were inside at the time of the fire but were able to self-evacuate.  Multiple crews were called to battle the blaze.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Dodge Ave. House Fire

    July 5, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1235 Dodge Ave.  When crews arrived they found smoke coming from the rear of the structure.  Fire was found in an exterior wall of the home and was quickly extinguished.  No one was home at the time of the blaze, but firefighters did rescue three pets.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • W. Creighton Structure Fire

    July 4, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 335 W. Creighton.  Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the second floor of the home.  Crews made entry and found fire in a second floor bedroom.  The fire was quickly contained without any extension and extinguished.  Four occupants were home at the time of and had self-evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival.  Three pets were rescued.  No injuries were reported.  The fire's cause remains under investigation. 

  • Old Mill Road House Fire

    July 2, 2012 - It took several hours to gain control of a house fire at 4802 Old Mill Road.  When crews first arrived on scene they found fire on the first floor of the home with heavy involvement  extending into the attic area.  Firefighters tried to ventilate the structure with holes in the roof, but fire suppression was hampered due to the multiple void spaces in the attic.  Multiple were called to rotate in due to the oppressive heat.  No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Alliger House Fire

    July 2, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 1825 Alliger.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and fire involvement on both the first and second floor of the two story home.  Crews made entry but were forced to evacuate due the amount of fire involvment.  The fire was then fought defensively. Crews were able to contain the fire to the address without further extension to neighboring homes.   No one was home at the time of the fire.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

     

  • Huffman Street House Fire

    June 30, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish a fire in an upstairs bedroom at 1219 Huffman Street.  Crews quickly gained entry to the structure and were able to locate, contain and extinguish the blaze.  No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Sturgis House Fires

    June 28, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 611 Sturgis St.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from both 611 Sturgis St. and 605 Sturgis St. addresses.  Crews began an interior attack but were called out of the structure due to the deteriorating conditions. The fire was fought defensively.  While fire did spread to a third house at 615 Sturgis St. firefighters were able to avoid further extension.  It was determined occupants of all three homes were already self-evacuated or were not home at the time of the blaze. 

    Firefighters were rehabbed and rotated throughout the evening.  TRAA crews were on hand to check the vitals of firefighters on scene.  Several were treated for heat related issues and released. 

    Crews remained on the scene throughout the night to monitor and put out any hot spots.  Early Friday morning, the house at 611 Sturgis was raised. 

    No further injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
