• 4600 Southpark Dr. House Fire

    September 23, 2016 - FWFD personnel responded to a reported house fire in the 4600 block of Southpark Drive this morning. Crews arrived within three minutes of notification. Approximately half of the house was heavily involved in fire, threatening a neighbor's house to the south. Firefighters quickly determined that the house was abandoned and extinguished the fire, minimizing damage to the neighbor's house. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Crews were assisted by FWPD, Neighborhood Code, AEP, and NIPSCO.

  • 600 W. Dewald St. House Fire

    September 20, 2016 - FWFD responded to a report of smoke coming from a residence on W. Dewald. Crews arrived to find moderate smoke coming from a home in the 600 block of W. Dewald. Firefighters initiated an offensive interior attack and quickly extinguished a fire in the kitchen at the rear of the first floor. A small dog was rescued from the house and placed in custody of Animal Care and Control. No one was home at the time of the incident and there were no injuries to firefighters. FWFD received assistance from FWPD, Neighborhood Code, Nipsco, and TRAA.

  • 1300 Scott Ave. House Fire

    September 18, 2016 – FWFD units responded to a reported house fire in the 1300 block of Scott Ave. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire in the rear of the house with power lines down in the back yard. Fire was impinging on a home next door and also spreading to a large shed. Crews initiated a coordinated attack to address multiple issues and also search for any occupants that may have still been inside. The fire was placed under control within 17 minutes and crews remained on the scene to extinguish any remaining spot fires. FWFD was assisted by AEP, NIPSCO, NCE, FWFD, TRAA and Red Cross.

  • 900 Lincoln Ave. House Fire

    September 17, 2016 – A resident in the 900 block of Lincoln Ave was awoken this evening by neighbors pounding on his door alerting him that smoke is coming from his roof. He safely exited the home with 3 dogs. Firefighters observed heavy smoke and some fire from the roof on arrival and discovered a fire in a second floor room which extended into the attic area. The fire was brought under control within 25 minutes and there were no injuries.

  • 6700 Winnebago Dr. House Fire

    September 11, 2016 - The Fort Wayne Fire Dept. responded to a reported house fire in the 6700 block of Winnebago Dr. On arrival firefighters found a two story wood frame house with smoke coming out of the garage. The first unit arrived on the scene in about four minutes. They found a resident outside he stated that everyone was out and the fire was in the dryer. He also stated that he tried to put the fire out with a garden hose before he called fire dept. Crews made an interior fire attack and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. There was minor fire and water damage with moderate smoke damage. No injuries were reported and this fire remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene was FWPD TRAA NIPSCO NEC. Red Cross was not needed at the time of this report.

  • 2700 W. Washington Ctr Rd House Fire

    September 5, 2016 - FWFD responded to a report of a mobile home fire. Upon arrival first units found one mobile home fully involved and fire spreading to an adjacent mobile home. Fire crews quickly controlled the first fire and then extinguished the second mobile home. The fire is under investigation. There were no injuries and the FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, NCE, NIPSCO, and AEP.

  • Brass Rail Tavern Apartment Fire

    September 19, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was sent to the Brass Rail Tavern on Broadway on a reported structure fire. When crews arrived the fire was found on the outside of the apartment above the Brass Rail Tavern. Crews attacked the fire from the rear using ladders to gain access to a patio on the second floor of the building. The Brass Rail Tavern was not involved in the fire. All the apartments on the second floor were searched and no one was found to be home. Salvage operations were conducted in the Antique store and the Brass Rail below the fire apartment. The fire is under investigation.

     

  • 10500 Hickory Tree Rd. House Fire

    September 15, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Dept. responded to a reported house fire in the 10500 block of Hickory Tree Rd. upon arrival firefighters found one story ranch with moderate smoke coming out of the attic area of the house. A passer - by had seen the smoke and called 911. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack into the attic from the garage. The fire was placed under control in about 20 minutes from the alarm time. No one was home at the time of this fire but two family pets were found in the house and removed safely to the back yard by firefighters. There was moderate fire, water, and smoke damage to the attic area of the house and minor damage to the interior part of the house. No injuries were reported and this fire remains under investigation.

  • 600 Fifth St. House Fire

    September 15, 2015 - Early this morning the Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a reported house fire in the 600 block of Fifth St. A family of 6 had already evacuated when the first fire units arrived to see flames blowing from a second floor window. Units advanced quickly and knocked the fire down before it spread to other areas of the house. A pet cat was found in the house by firefighters and brought out safely. The fire was contained to one room and the smoke contained to the second floor. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

  • 3500 Avondale Dr. House Fire

    September 1, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 3500 block of Avondale Dr. The first unit on the scene found heavy fire throughout the home. Crews did an aggressive interior attack and searched the structure for any occupants none were found. One occupant had left the home before the fire department arrived. The occupant was treated at the scene by TRAA and released. The fire is under investigation.

  • 3600 Bowser St. House Fire

    August 15, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a residential structure fire in the 3600 block of Bowser. The first engine arrived on the scene within one minute and found smoke coming from the house. The crew forced entry for fire attack. Another crew arrived and searched the house but found that no one was home. The fire started in the bedroom and no injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.

    • All information pertaining to the Written Exam on Saturday, September 26 2015 can be found in the Applicant Exam Letter in the Career Opportunities/Written Exam window.
    1. Registration will be from 8:00 am – 8:45 am; you must be in line to register by 8:45 am or you will be removed from the process.
    2. Enter the Grand Wayne Center (120 West Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46802) from the Jefferson street entrance…ushers will be in place to guide you towards Convention Halls B / C
    3. You must bring a government issued photo ID with you for registration check-in.
    4. If you are not on our applicant list, you must show proof of your application by providing the receipt you received when your application was submitted.
    5. Allow plenty of time to find downtown parking and make it to the Grand Wayne Center before registration closes at 8:45 am. The Fort 4 Fitness race is happening at Parkview Field on Saturday as well…prepare for heavy traffic, crowds, and limited parking…  DO NOT SHOW UP LATE, IF YOU ARE LATE,  YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER…PLAN AHEAD!
    6. If you have a valid CPAT card/certification that was issued on, or after, 06-26-2015 bring it with you. This will count towards your FWFD CPAT requirement.

  • Curdes Ave. House Fire

    September 24, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire early this morning in the 1300 block of Curdes Ave.  First arriving units found heavy fire coming from the garage area of the one story home with some extension into the attic area.  While crews worked to contain the fire, firefighters also searched the residence.  Three people, two adults and one child, were home but safely evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.  Firefighters had extensive overhaul to ensure all hidden fires in the attic were extinguished.  No injuries were reported.  The home sustained heavy fire damage with moderate water and smoke damage.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

  • Woodshire Drive Apartment Fire

    September 15, 2014 - Early this morning the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire in the 5600 block of Woodshire Drive.  Upon arrival crews made entry seeing no evidence of fire as they entered the apartment building. As they approached apartment #3 on the first floor, firefighters saw smoke rolling from the bottom of the door.  Crews forced entry into the apartment and immediately began searching for possible victims in the heavy smoke filled apartment.  Firefighters quickly located and evacuated one person from the living room area to the medics outside.  The patient was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.  One additional person and one dog were evacuated by the FWFD in the eight apartments cleared.  No additional injuries were reported.  Those residents displaced by the fire were being assisted by the apartment complex management team.  At the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. TRAA and FWPD assisted at the scene.

  • Wells Street Fire

    September 12, 2014 -The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1600 block of Wells Street: a house comprised of five apartment units. Enroute crews were notified from Dispatch two people inside the structure were reporting fire and they were unable to escape. Upon arrival crews reported heavy smoke and immediately located one individual just outside the second story window on the porch roof and evacuated them to safety. Inside crews located one subject in the rear of the structure who was wakened and assisted out of the structure. Another subject was located unconscious inside a first floor apartment and was evacuated by firefighters. All three were transported to a local hospital for medical care. One additional resident was inside the structure at the time of the fire but self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival. At the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further patient information is available at this time.   FWPD, Nipsco, AEP, Neighborhood Code and TRAA assisted at the scene.

  • Travis Hostler Promoted to DC of Training

    September 10, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) promoted Captain Travis Hostler to District Chief of Training on Wednesday, September 10.

  • Gas Line Cut

    September 8, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible gas line cut in the 900 block of Webster between Wayne and Berry.  On arrival firefighters were notified construction crews working in the area struck a 2' gas line and the odor of gas was evident.  Fire Crews evacuated 229 Berry and the surrounding construction site as a precautionary measure.  Fire crews entered neighboring structures and continued to meter the area determining no further evacuations were necessary.  Nipsco quickly made the scene and crews were able to locate the shut off valve and mitigate the leak. 

  • Wayne Combustion Fire

    September 5, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 2505 Dwenger Ave.  On arrival crews found smoke and fire in the warehouse area of the structure.  Crews were able to quickly contain the blaze and extinguish it.  Only minor fire, smoke and water damage was reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Turtle Creek Apartment Fire

    September 27, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 6060 Turtle Creek Drive Apartment 6060 within the Turtle Creek Apartment complex.  Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the first and second floors of that unit.  Extra crews were called to scene due to the potential of fire spread and potential life hazards.  Crews were able to contain the fire to the fire apartment and attic.   The fire was under control in 30 minutes.  All residents self-evacuated prior to the FWFD's arrival and no injuries were reported. The building sustained heavy fire, water and smoke damage.  The cause of the blaze was ruled as accidental cooking fire.   Occupants displaced by the fire will be relocated to other apartments in the complex. 

  • Getz Road Fire

    September 22, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department's Station 17 was alerted to a possible house fire... right next door at 2010 Getz Road.  The home's occupant knocked on the door of the station alerting the firefighters his house was on fire.  Crews quickly made entry into the two story home and located the fire around the fireplace.  Firefighters were able to quickly able to contain and extinguish the flames.  The structure sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage.  Three people were home at the time but were able to self-evacuate.  No injuries were reported. 

  • Fayette Drive Apartment Fire

    September 19, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1029 Fayette Drive.  The first engine arrived to find heavy fire venting from the back of the one story apartment.  Firefighters entered the structure to search for occupants and extinguish the blaze.  Other crews searched the adjoining apartment but found that everyone had self-evacuated.  No injuries were reported.  The fire was located and extinguished in 16 minutes.  The cause remains under investigation. 

  • Hoosier Metal Fire

    September 10, 2013 -The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to Hoosier Metals after receiving a call for an explosion with black smoke coming from the facility. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a trailer on fire in the back of the lot. The fire did not affect the building structure.   Workers stated they were compressing scrap autos in the trailer when there was a small explosion catching the other materials in the trailer on fire. Crews worked with Hoosier Metal employees to extricate burning material from the trailer with a crane. Hot spots were extinguished. No injuries were reported. One lane of traffic on Coliseum was closed as firefighters laid a supply hose from a hydrant on Coliseum to the back area of the lot as a precautionary measure.  

  • Camden Drive Fire

    September 9, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 4811 Camden Drive.  Crews arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the side door into the kitchen area with extension to the front area of the one story home.  Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire.  No one was home at the time of the blaze.  No injuries were reported.  The structure sustained moderate fire and water damage with heavy smoke damage throughout the home.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Fourth Street Fire

    September 9, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire just after 6 a.m. this morning.  First arriving firefighters reported fire was showing from 501 W. Fourth Street with extension to a second home at 505 W. Fourth St.  With additional homes in close proximity to each other, crews were able to minimize the spread and contain the fire to the two homes.  Crews were able to determine both houses to be vacant and no injuries were reported.  The fire was placed under control after 48 minutes.  The home located at 501 W. Fourth Street sustained heavy fire, water and smoke damage.  The structure at 505 W. Fourth Street sustained moderate damage.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Tasty Pizza Fire

    September 8, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire after receiving a call from Fort Wayne Police Department Officers on patrol who discovered heavy smoke rolling out of the Tasty Pizza business located at 4302 Fairfield Avenue. On arrival crews found heavy fire throughout the structure. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 15 minutes. The building sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage. No one was inside at the time of the fire and its cause is currently under investigation.

  • Smith House Fire

    September 7, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 4600 block of Smith Street. Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the rear of the structure with some visible in the attic area of the home. All occupants, two adults and two children, had already safely self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival. Crews were able to quickly locate the fire in the kitchen area of the home and extinguish. No injuries were reported. The structure sustained moderate fire, smoke and water damage. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • Bowser Ave. Garage Fire

    September 25, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a detached garage fire at 4225 Bowser.  Crews arrived on scene to a fully involved garage.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading the neighboring structures. The FWFD had the fire under control in 12 minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

  • Lafayette St. House Fire

    September 25, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 3327 South Lafayette St.  Upon arrival crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor of the home.  After searching the structure and determining no one was inside, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in less than 17 minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

  • Winter Street Fire

    September 24, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire this morning at 4737 Winter Street. Upon arrival crews saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the back corner of the home. Firefighters made entry and found fire in the back corner of the house with extension into the attic area. An immediate aggressive interior attack brought the fire under control in 20 minutes. No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • McCulloch Street House Fire

    September 24, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1304 McCulloch Street. Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the 2nd floor of the home. The house was vacant. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and extinguish it in less than 10 minutes. A general contractor reported he had arrived to work on the house this morning, and he saw and smelled smoke. He called 911.

    No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • Rodgers Ave. House Fire

    September 20, 2012 - Three people were able to escape from a house fire early this morning.  Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 3305 Rodgers Ave.  Upon arrival crews found minor smoke coming from the one story residential structure.  Firefighters made entry and quickly contained the fire to the kitchen area and extinguished it in under six minutes. One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Raymond Street House Fire

    September 16, 2012 - A homeowner called the Fort Wayne Fire Department after he returned home to find his house on fire.  Crews responded to 2616 Raymond Street and found smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.  Crews made entry and were able to quickly extinguish the fire found in the kitchen area.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  

  • Congress House Fire

    September 14, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible structure fire at 3516 Congress.  Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the second floor of the two story structure. Firefighters made entry and were able to locate the fire in the basement of the house and quickly extinguish it.  While the fire did not extend outside the basement, the entire house did sustain extensive smoke and water damage.  One resident was home at the time of the fire but self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  They were transported to a local hospital with burns.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
  • New Fellowship Church Fire

    September 14, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 902 Putnam St. at New Fellowship Church.  Upon arrival crews found smoke and fire showing from the ground floor windows.  Firefighters made entry and located the fire in the basement area of the structure and were able to quickly contain and extinguish the flames.  No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.  The structure sustained minor fire damage with moderate smoke and water damage.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  

  • Dewald St. House Fire

    DSC 1757September 7, 2012 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 125 Dewald St. West with occupants trapped on the roof. Upon arrival, crews saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the second story.   The last of the trapped occupants was leaving the roof via a ladder. While the individual has not been identified, a man helped those trapped by extending a ladder to the roof enabling the residents to climb to safety prior to FWFD's arrival. Crews made entry to the structure and continued with primary search confirming no one else was inside. Firefighters were able to locate the fire and extinguish. Some fire extension to the neighboring house was reported.   Crews were able to limit the fire's spread and the house sustained minor exterior damage only. The originating fire structure sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported. TRAA, FWPD, Neighborhood Code assisted at the scene. Red Cross was called to assist the victims.

  • Hillrise Drive House Fire

    September 25, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 6505 Hillrise Drive.  Upon arrival crews found fire in the kitchen area of the home.  The home's occupant self-evacuated but reported a dog was still inside the structure.  Fort Wayne Firefighters rescued the dog.  The fire was quickly extinguished.  No injuries were reported.  The fire's cause remains under investigation.

  • Kitchen Fire on Plaza

    September 25, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 4202 Plaza.  Upon arrival units found moderate smoke coming from the front of the house with the home's occupant standing outside.  Crews entered and quickly located the fire in the kitchen.  The fire was extinguished within six minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The scene was cleared by fire investigators and determined to be the result of unattended grease left on an operating stove. 

  • South Anthony Garage Fire

    September 16, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 4609 South Anthony Blvd. Upon arrival, smoke was found coming from the rear of the home.  Firefighters determined the fire originated in the garage area.  They were able to bring the blaze under control within 13 minutes..  One occupant was home and self-evacuated.  No one was injured. 

  • House Fire on Oliver Street

    September 16, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 4426 Oliver Street.  When crews arrived, fire and smoke were visible and coming from the front of the structure.  Firefighters made entry and were able to control the fire in less than 10 minutes.  No one was home at the time of the blaze.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

  • FWFD Collects Donations for MDA

    The Fort Wayne Fire Department would like to thank all those who contributed to the "fill the boot" MDA drive and once again made it a great success.  The donations from citizens were very generous and the effort on the part of the firefighters was outstanding!
