July 14, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire at Shoaff Park. Upon arrival crews identified the large fire to the storm debris collection site in the park where heavy flames were visible. Firefighters witnessed the fire's encroachment to the forest directly behind the pile. Crews were able to push back the flames, contain it to the debris pile and put the fire under control. The fire department is currently working with both the Parks Department and the Street Department who brought in heavy loader apparatus to move the pile and break it apart enabling the Fire Department to continue to extinguish any remaining fire and hot spots throughout the morning. No injuries were reported. The fire's cause remains under investigation.
