August 23, 2013 - One person escaped and two pets were rescued at an early morning fire in the 4200 block of South Lafayette Street. The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire and found fire coming from a side window of the one story structure. Firefighters located the fire in the front bedroom of the home and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze in ten minutes. No injuries were reported. The home's occupant had safely self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival. The structure sustained moderate damage. The neighboring home was also damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
