September 10, 2013 -The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to Hoosier Metals after receiving a call for an explosion with black smoke coming from the facility. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a trailer on fire in the back of the lot. The fire did not affect the building structure. Workers stated they were compressing scrap autos in the trailer when there was a small explosion catching the other materials in the trailer on fire. Crews worked with Hoosier Metal employees to extricate burning material from the trailer with a crane. Hot spots were extinguished. No injuries were reported. One lane of traffic on Coliseum was closed as firefighters laid a supply hose from a hydrant on Coliseum to the back area of the lot as a precautionary measure.
