• 2200 Ludwig Rd House Fire

    January 4, 2016 - Occupant stated that he smelled smoke in the house. He went to investigate and found backroom of structure on fire. He and 4 other adults self-evacuated. Firefighters were called and made an aggressive interior attack to extinguish fire. House sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. A dog scaped fire. AEP ,FWPD and TRAA assisted. Cause of fire under investigation.

  • 5500 Winter St. House Fire

    January 3, 2016 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire. First units on the scene found light smoke showing from the attached garage and a report of the structure being occupied. As one crew found and extinguished the fire in the garage, the second crew assisted the 2 occupants out of the house. The fire was contained to the garage and was determined to be accidental in nature. No injuries were reported by either occupant or the FWFD. The Fire Department was assisted at the scene by FWPD, TRAA, NCE, AEP and NIPSCO. The fire was under control in 5 minutes.

  • 3700 Avondale Dr House Fire

    January 1, 2016 - FWFD units responded to a house fire in the 3700 block of Avondale. Upon arrival, flames were seen on the exterior side of the home. An aggressive attack was made and the fire was stopped before it could extend into the interior of the home. The fire was under control within 7 minutes and no injuries were reported. FWPD, TRAA, NCE, NIPSCO and AEP assisted at the scene. Cause of fire under investigation.

  • 5500 Albany Ct House Fire

    December 20, 2015 - Residents noticed smoke in the home and located a fire in the laundry room. The family called 911 and evacuated the house upon fire dept. arrival. The fire dept. extinguished the fire and conducted overhaul of the fire room. The fire was under investigation upon this notice. All units cleared the scene.

  • 1300 Barthold St House Fire

    December 14, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Dept. responded to a reported house fire in the 1300 block of
    Barthold St. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor of the residence. The first fire units arrived on the scene in about 3 minutes. They found that all occupants of the home had self-evacuated before the Fire Dept. arrival. Firefighters made an interior attack on the fire on the first floor and checked both the basement and upstairs for any fire that possibly extended into other areas of the home. This fire was placed under control in about 16 minutes after arrival. There was heavy fire, smoke, and water damage on the first floor and heavy heat and smoke damage upstairs. No
    injuries were reported and this fire remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene was N.E.C., TRAA, NIPSCO, AEP. FWPD. The Red Cross was called for 2 Adults and 2 Children.

  • 2200 S. Lafayette St Building Fire

    November 26, 2015 - Fire crews arrived to the Two story building with the 2nd floor fully involved with
    fire. Crew made an interior attack with hose lines but was quickly pulled out and the fire was extinguished from the exterior in a defensive mode. Two ladder trucks were set up to apply water into the building from elevated position. The fire was under control in less than an hour. The fire department was assisted
    by FWPD, TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO, and NCE. Fire crews will remain on the scene most of the night. Cause of fire under investigation.

  • Buy and Save Auto Sales

    November 25, 2015 - Fire crews arrived to find fire coming through the roof and out of the roof vents. Fire crews made an interior attack with multiple hose lines and extinguished the fire on the second floor and in the attic area. Crews worked to open up the building to get the smoke out and help with the extinguishment of the fire. Fire crews were assisted by FWPD, TRAA, AEP, and NCE. Goshen Ave was shut down for a water supply hose line to supply the fire crews with water. No injuries were reported. Cause of fire under investigation.

  • Rosewood Circle House Fire

    January 20, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the 10000 block of Rosewood Circle.  The family had arrived home to find heavy smoke coming from the home.  Firefighters arrived, made entry and located the fire in kitchen area on the main floor with extension.  Crews worked to extinguish the blaze and locate the family's dog.  While no injuries were reported, the dog did not survive.  The structure sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. 

  • Water Rescue

    January 19, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Department responded to a report of someone seen in the river at Spy Run and State Street Bridge.  Units arrived on scene to find a female subject unconscious lying face down on top of the ice.  Firefighters quickly donned ice rescue suits and pulled the person to the riverbank within seven minutes of arrival.  The patient was transported to a local hospital. 

  • W. Fourth St. House Fire

    January 17, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 500 block of W. Fourth Street.  Crews arrived and found heavy fire in the second floor of the two story home with extension into the attic area.  The fire was reported by neighbors who said the homeowners were out of town but their two dogs were inside.  Crews made entry and rescued the two dogs and continued work to bring the fire under control. The structure sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Decatur Rd. Apartment Fire

    January 13, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to the 7900 block of Decatur Rd. after reports of an apartment fire.  First arriving crews found a light haze coming from the three story building with evacuation already is progress.  Firefighters made entry and located the fire in apartment 110A.  Crews were able to bring the blaze under control in 21 minutes.  Crews determined no one was home in the fire apartment and it sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.  Red Cross was called to assist that apartment's occupant.  After ventilation, all other residents were cleared to return home.  One person was treated and released on scene for minor smoke inhalation.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • Canterbury Green Apartment Fire

    January 11, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the Canterbury Green Apartment complex.  Occupants of two apartments that share a chimney evacuated after they saw and smelled smoke.  Crews arrived and found smoke and fire in the chimney area and were able to extinguish it in 50 minutes.  No injuries were reported and the Red Cross and Canterbury staff were assisting the three occupants affected by the fire.  The structure sustained moderate fire and smoke damage. 

  • St. Louis Ave. House Fire

    January 10, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2600 block of St. Louis Ave.  First arriving crews found moderate smoke coming from the roof and attic area of the one story residential home.  Firefighters made entry and were able to extinguish the blaze in 18 minutes.  Two adults, along with their pet were able to self-evacuate prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Calhoun St. House Fire

    January 7, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department extinguished a house fire in the 5500 block of Calhoun St. this afternoon.  Two of the home's occupants were inside and alerted by a smoke detector and safely exited the home prior to FWFD's arrival.  The fire resulted in heavy damage to the residence but no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

  • Colisuem Inn Fire

    January 4-2015 -  It took firefighters less than an hour to get a fire under control at the Coliseum Inn (1020 North Coliseum) Sunday afternoon. Crews arrived on scene a little before 3 p.m. and found fire in a downstairs room with extension to the second floor between the walls and into the attic area. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while others evacuated the building. No injuries were reported but the Red Cross was called to assist approximately 40 residents displaced. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

    Along with the new year, winter weather has arrived. Extremely cold temperatures are forecasted along with some precipitation over the next few days. The Fort Wayne Fire Department wants everyone to stay safe and offers the following safety tips on how to best care for yourself and your family when temperatures plummet.

  • Hurd Street House Fire

    January 1, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) was called to the 1400 block of Hurd Street after a report of a possible house fire.  The first arriving units found smoke coming from the structure.  Crews made entry and located the fire in the living room area of the two story home.  Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguish the fire.  Three adults and five children self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  While the structure sustained moderate smoke, fire and water damage, no injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

  • Tractor/Trailer Fire - Bluffton Rd.

    January 30, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to an 80,000 sq. ft. tractor/trailer repair facility at 8222 Bluffton Rd. after an alarm indicated an active water flow from a pipe.  When crews arrived firefighters found smoke coming from the facility.  Crews made entry and encountered multiple car hauling semis located inside.  One of the tractor/trailers, deep inside the structure, was found to be on fire.  Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguished the fire.  Crews remained on scene for several hours clearing the smoke from the building.  No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The structure sustained minor fire and water damage with moderate smoke damage. 

  • Restaurant Fire

    photo 44 copyJanuary 26, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 4610 Coldwater Rd.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the one story building with extension through the roof.  Firefighters were forced to fight the fire defensively due to the heavy fire involvement and compromised structural integrity.  Crews battled strong winds and worked to contain the blaze and to ensure the fire did not spread to neighboring buildings.  The building was destroyed in the fire.  No one was inside at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Ellen Ave. Detached Garage Fire

    January 22, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported detached garage fire in the 2000 block of Ellen Ave.  Firefighters arrived to find the one story garage fully involved.  It took firefighters 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.  The garage sustained heavy smoke, water and fire damage.  No other buildings were affected.  One firefighter was injured on scene and was transported to Lutheran Hospital with a knee injury.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • Anthony Wayne Dr. House Fire

    January 22, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire with someone trapped inside. When the first unit arrived on scene they found a two story home with fire coming out of the doors and windows of the first floor. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and searched the home. Fortunately, it was determined the two occupants of the home, one adult and one child, had self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival. One dog inside did perish. Crews were able to control the fire in 34 minutes. Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen when a pan of grease was left on the stove. The structure sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

  • St. Marys House Fire

    January 27, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a reported house fire at 1932 St. Marys Ave.  Arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the two story house.  Firefighters made an interior attack while searching the house for occupants.  It was determined the house was vacant.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire and place it under control in 10 minutes.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation.  No injuries were reported. 

  • Gaywood Structure Fire

    January 25, 2013- At 12:28 a.m. the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to 5200 block of Gaywood for a possible structure fire. Upon arrival crews found the one home occupant already self-evacuated and flames and smoke in the attic area of the one story home. An aggressive attack contained the fire and firefighters were able to extinguish it. The structure sustained moderate damage in the attic area with smoke and water damage to the first floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • Jones Street House Fire

    January 24, 2013 -The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of black smoke from the second floor of a home at 1318 Jones Street. On arrival crews encountered heavy smoke visible coming from the structure.  Firefighters gained entry and located the seat of the fire in the basement with extension into the first and second floors through the air ducts. The fire was under control after 27 minutes. The home was vacant and there were no injuries. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • Mechanic Street House Fire

    MechanicFire1January 24, 2013 (Photo by INC Now - Brian Gillett)  The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the reported structure fire at 118 Mechanic Street, a house split as two apartments. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames on the first floor with heavy extension throughout the structure. Crews determined no one was home and began an aggressive interior attack with multiple roof ventilations. The fire was brought under control in 1 hour and 23 minutes. Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be improperly discarded smoking materials. Red Cross was called to assist the families affected by the fire. One resident on scene reported two cats missing. They have not been located. The property was deemed inhabitable and the structure was raised. FWPD, TRAA, Nipsco and I&M assisted at the scene.

  • Sailwind House Fire

    FiresailwindJanuary 21, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to a house fire at 9308 Sailwind Drive Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, crews found a two story house with fire and smoke coming from the attached garage and fire extending to the second floor attic. An additional engine was requested due to the amount of fire showing and the extremely windy conditions.  Crews were able to gain control of the blaze in under 30 minutes. No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The structure sustained heavy damage.

  • Allegany Ave. House Fire

    January 20, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3020 Allegany Ave. Heavy smoke and fire were visible from the first floor of the home extending to the second floor on arrival. Crews quickly determined no one was home and were able to locate the fire in the living room area and gain control in 20 minutes. The structure sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage. The cause of this blaze remains under investigation.

  • Old Trail Road House Fire

    January 20, 2013 -  A passerby walked into Southwest Fire District Station 1 at 7001 Old Trail Road to report a structure fire across the street from the fire station at 7008 Old Trail Road. Southwest Fire District responded with their truck and notified the FWFD. Once on scene, both departments worked together to complete a primary search and bring the fire under control. The fire was located in the kitchen area of the home and was contained and extinguished. Fire crews had the fire under control with 20 minutes. The structure sustained moderate damage. No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • Building Fire

    DSC 0075January 16, 2013 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 8310 Bridgeway Blvd. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof area of the building. Crews were able to contain the fire to the attic area and control the fire in 22 minutes. While there was heavy damage to the roof/attic area of the building, firefighters were able to minimize damage to the rest of the structure. No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze. The cause remains under investigation.

  • Natural Gas Leak

    January 14, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to the area of Clinton St. and Coldwater Rd. on a smell of natural gas.  Crews arrived and found a natural gas leak at 3910 Coldwater Rd.  The fire department immediately metered the area and determined to evacuations were necessary.  As a precautionary measure, the FWFD remained on scene while NIPSCO repaired the leak. 

  • Apartment Fire

    January 12, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to possible structure fire at 5210 Stonehedge Blvd., Canterbury Green Apartments.  Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from apartment # 4, a first floor apartment.  Firefighters made entry and located the fire in the kitchen area of the apartment that had started on the stove.  Residents were evacuated from 11 adjoining apartments.  Some were evacuated by ladders extended to the second floor.  No injuries were reported. 

  • Pepperwood Ct. House Fire

    January 5, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a house fire at 8125 Pepperwood Ct. by a neighbor who stated there was a fire on the outside of the home and there were dogs and a cat inside.  When crews arrived they found heavy fire on the outside of the garage and extending into the attic of the home.  Firefighters were able to contain the blaze in 22 minutes.  No one was home at the time of the fire. Four pets were rescued and were not injured.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Autumn Creek Apartment Fire

    January 23, 2012 - Lightning sparked an early morning fire at 2026 Ardmore at the Autumn Creek Apartments. Upon arrival smoke could be seen coming from the attic area of the multi-unit structure and multiple residents had already self-evacuated.  Crews quickly evacuated the remaining residents, and they were able to locate the fire.  Firefighters contained the blaze and quickly extinguished it preventing further extension.  No injuries were reported.  

  • Eden Green Apartment Fire

    IMG 0076UPDATE:  The Fort Wayne Fire Department has learned from the occupant of the apartment in which the fire started, there was a working smoke detector in the apartment until it was taken down by the occupant several weeks ago.  Therefore, the alarm did not function at the time of the fire.  An additional patient was transported privately to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

    January 22, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible structure fire at 1314 Greene Street, complex 4-B.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke coming from the second story of the unit with people visible outside on their balconies in both the front and rear of the structure.  Crews immediately began their rescue efforts.  Residents also indicated someone was still inside the apartment building.  Firefighters already searching quickly located and rescued the subject inside an apartment.  The patient was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.  The five rescued residents, considered to be in good condition, were also transported for observation.  The fire was contained and extinguished quickly.  The fire originated in the kitchen and is considered accidental in nature caused by unattended food/cooking on the stove.  No evidence of a working smoke detector was found. 

  • Imperial Plaza Drive House Fire

    January 20, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a house fire at 7509 Imperial Plaza Drive.  Firefighters found fire coming from a front bedroom.  The occupant of the home had self-evacuated but advised several pets remained inside.  Firefighters were able to rescue the five pets from inside the home.  The fire was contained to the bedroom area and was quickly extinguished.   There was a working smoke detector inside the house. No injuries were reported.  The fire's cause remains under investigation.

  • Gaywood Ave. House Fire

    January 17, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 4005 Gaywood Ave.  Upon arrival crews found the vacant home fully involved with fire extending to the occupied homes north and south of the fire house.  Neighbors in these houses had already self-evacuated.  Fire crews immediately applied water and were able to minimize and stop the fire spread.  No injuries were reported.

    Based on witness accounts, there was an explosion prior to the resulting fire. While firefighters did not witness the described explosion, based on the information collected, the debris field and the fact the fire was natural gas fed, it does appear to be a gas related fire.  The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • 20/20 Import Auto Parts Fire

    January 12, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 2020 South Anthony.  Fire crews arrived at 20/20 Import Auto Parts to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the building.  Crews began the fire attack and were forced back to battle the blaze defensively/outside as a result of active flames, building content and structural integrity.  The fire started when an employee was using a cutting torch device to remove an engine from a vehicle.  The fuel line ruptured and the gas ignited.  The two employees inside were able to self-evacuate.  No injuries were reported.  The investigation is ongoing.  TRAA, FWPD, Nipsco, Water Department, Water Pollution Control, Homeland Security and Neighborhood Code assisted at the scene.

  • Castle Drive Fire

    January 10, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived at the scene of a reported house fire at 2604 Castle Drive.  Upon arrival crews found smoke and flames coming from the exterior eaves and the garage of the house. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire without further extension to the rest of the home.  Two occupants were inside at the time of the fire and were able to self-evacuate without injury.  The fire's cause remains under investigation.   

  • Silo Rescue

    January 7, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department Special Operations Rescue Team was dispatched to assist the Jefferson Township Fire Department, Whitley County, on the rescue of a victim trapped in a grain silo at AG Plus in the 5400 block of Raber Road.  The first FWFD units arrived at 6:30 p.m. and were advised an adult male was trapped up to his waist in grain at the bottom of a +80'grain tower.  Victim contact was quickly established and steps were taken to ensure more grain did not spill in around him.  Over the next few hours, farming operations from around the area assisted by supplying grain vacuuming equipment to lower the level of soy beans in the silo until rescuers could free the victim's legs.  The patient was freed and was extricated from the silo tower at 12:13 a.m.  He was then transported to Parkview Hospital by Samaritan in stable condition. 

  • Cass Street House Fire

    December 30, 2011 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1602 Cass Street.  Fire units arrived on the scene to find the home owner, who self-evacuated after hearing the home's smoke alarm, outside.  Firefighters entered the structure and found fire in the basement.  Crews quickly contained the fire and extinguished it.  The structure received moderate fire damage and minor smoke damage.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation.   

  • Oven Fire at Superior Essex

    The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of a manufacturing oven fire at 1601 Wall Street on January 3rd, 2011 at 9:36 p.m. Upon arrival fire fighters found smoke and fire coming from the top of an oven and the ventilation stack for the oven. Fire fighters used extinguishers to put the fire out. The fire was under control in 19 minutes after arrival. There were no injuries.
  • Update on 5163 Coventry Parkway Fire Investigation & availability of Incident Reports

     

    The Fort Wayne Fire Department has not found anything at this time that leads us to believe there was anything suspicious regarding the January 23 fire at 5163 Coventry Parkway.  The investigation will continue and anyone with any information may call 427-1317. 

  • FWFD reviews dispatch information for response to Saturday's fatal fire

    Fire officials have confirmed that responding fire units were initially dispatched to a West Jefferson address instead of the address of a fatal house fire on Saturday January 17th at 722 East Jefferson. Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) Chief Peter X. Kelly and others have conducted a preliminary review of the dispatching information regarding communication for the emergency response and are releasing the following information.  

  • FWFD promotes three Captains

     Fort Wayne Fire Department will promote two firefighters to the rank of Captain and one firefighter to the rank of Captain/Investigator at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, in the City Clerk’s Office, Room 122, City-County Building, 100 East Main Street.
  • Fort Wayne Fire and Police Departments celebrate new Firefighter, Police and First Arson Investigator Basic Class Graduates

     The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) and the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) hosted their first combined graduation ceremony today for 18 new firefighters as well as the six members of the first Fire Arson Investigator Basic Class and a graduate from the FWPD Academy. Participating in the graduation ceremony at the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana Auditorium today were Fort Wayne Mayor Thomas Henry, FWFD Fire Chief Peter X. Kelly, Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York and City Clerk Sandy Kennedy.
