October 17, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the Avenir Inn at 1005 W. Washington Ctr. on a report of a fire alarm sounding in the building. The first crews arrived, investigated and found smoke coming from room 308. A full fire department response was initiated and all 29 occupants of the hotel were evacuated. Firefighters located a small fire in room 308's heating unit and were able to contain the fire and quickly extinguish it. While the fire room sustained moderate smoke and minor fire and water damage, smoke was reported throughout the building. Firefighters were able to ventilate the building and the hotel guests were allowed to return to their rooms. Room 308 was not occupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
