March 31, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 1700 block of Short Street.  On arrival crews found fire coming from a window on the side of the one story home.  The home's occupant was already outside and had attempted to extinguish the fire prior to the FWFD's arrival.  Crews located the fire in the living room of the home and were able to extinguish the fire within five minutes.  The home's occupant did sustain a minor laceration from a broken window and was treated on scene and released.  The cause of the fire was the result of mishandled smoking materials next to combustibles and was cleared by Investigators.
