Wells Street Fire

September 12, 2014 -The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1600 block of Wells Street: a house comprised of five apartment units. Enroute crews were notified from Dispatch two people inside the structure were reporting fire and they were unable to escape. Upon arrival crews reported heavy smoke and immediately located one individual just outside the second story window on the porch roof and evacuated them to safety. Inside crews located one subject in the rear of the structure who was wakened and assisted out of the structure. Another subject was located unconscious inside a first floor apartment and was evacuated by firefighters. All three were transported to a local hospital for medical care. One additional resident was inside the structure at the time of the fire but self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival. At the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further patient information is available at this time.   FWPD, Nipsco, AEP, Neighborhood Code and TRAA assisted at the scene.
