Wyndham Garden Hotel Fire

November 16, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) was dispatched to a building fire 1619 Washington Center Road, which was later changed to 5750 Challenger Parkway. Initial crews discovered heavy fire involvement on the exterior of the Wyndham Garden Hotel, which was extending into the interior of the hotel. Forty firefighters were on scene within 8 minutes of the alarm, including 3 ladder trucks. Thirty-seven rooms were reported to be occupied at the time of the fire. The number was later confirmed to be 22. All occupants escaped without injury and the Wyndham Garden Hotel owner ensured that they were all provided with alternate shelter. The fire was confirmed to be under control just over an hour from arrival on scene. The FWFD received assistance from FWPD, Neighborhood Code, TRAA, AEP, and NIPSCO. Crews remained on scene throughout the night to ensure the safety of the scene and assisted residents with removal of possessions. The fire's cause remains under investigation.
