FORT WAYNE, IND., March 18, 2014 –The Honorable Mayor Henry, Public Safety Director Rusty York and Fire Chief Amy Biggs will honor firefighters and citizen heroes Wednesday, March 19, at the annual Fort Wayne Fire Department Service Awards at the Public Safety Academy/Ivy Tech South Campus (7602 Patriot Crossing).

Beginning at 7 p.m., the award recipients to be honored include; 

Citizen Action Award for

Brooke Slater and Brittany Williams - For their lifesaving actions to rescue a  young boy from a pond on April 18, 2013.

Citizen Meritorious Award

• Jaclyn and Joseph McGuigan – For their lifesaving response and actions to contain and extinguish a mobile home fire on August 10, 2013.
• Liz Layson – For initiating and rendering lifesaving first aid to a fellow employee after he collapsed on October 14, 2013.
• Jon Mansfield, Dave Hoagland and Jim Hoagland – For their lifesaving actions and efforts at a motor vehicle accident with a party pinned on October 1, 2013.
• Andrea Sierks and Katie Schnitz – For their lifesaving response and actions at the scene of a vehicle vs. moped accident on December 4, 2013.
• Dr. Mark O’Shaughnessy – For his ongoing professional service, dedication and continued support of firefighter’s health and well-being. 

Firefighter Meritorious Award

• • Captain Eric Balliet – For his lifesaving response and actions off-duty at a motor vehicle accident on September 17, 2014.

Firefighter Commendation Award

• • Pvt. Brad Garton – For his lifesaving response and actions at a motor vehicle accident with a party pinned on October 1, 2013.

Firefighter Community Service Award

• Captain Robert Trabel – For his innovative approach and ongoing efforts to protect the citizens of Fort Wayne and to build community relationships.

Firefighter Twenty Year Specialty Team Member Award

• • Private Jim Baals – Water Rescue Team
  • Captain Bruce Bickley – Water Rescue Team
  • Battalion Chief Bill Endorf – Hazardous Materials Team
  • Battalion Chief Dennis Maxwell – Hazardous Materials Team
  • Captain Matt Loraine – Hazardous Materials Team
  • Captain Dennis Giere – Special Operations Response Team
  • Captain Russ McCurdy – Special Operations Response Team
  • Private Pat Riley – Special Operations Response Team
  • Captain Randy Zion – Special Operations Response Team
