• South Harrison House Fire

    March 18, 2015 - Fort Wayne Firefighters were called to the 2400 block of South Harrision after a reported house fire.  Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the two story home.  After determining all the occupants were outside safely, firefighters were able to locate the fire in the first floor home office area and quickly extinguish it in 18 minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The structure sustained moderate fire, water and smoke damage.  Red Cross was called to assist the home's occupants.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

  • Columbia Ave. Apartment Fire

    March 17, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported apartment fire in the 800 block of Columbia Ave.  Crews arrived and found a small fire on the roof of the four apartment- two story building.  Crews quickly had the fire under control and minor damage was reported.  One occupant was inside the building at the time of the blaze and was able to self-evacuate. No injuries were reported.

  • Charlotte Ave. House Fire

    March 16, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 400 block of Charlotte early this morning.  Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the basement of the two story home.  Firefighters made entry and were able to control the fire in 19 minutes.  The home's three occupants were able to self-evacuate prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

  • Faulkner Court House Fire

    March 15, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 1500 block of Faulkner Court.  First arriving crews found smoke coming from the front of the one story house.  Alerted by smoke detectors, the home's two occupants were already safely outside.  Firefighters made entry and located the fire in a bedroom and were quickly able to contain and extinguish the blaze.  No injuries were reported.  The home sustained moderate fire and smoke damage.  The cause is under investigation.   

  • Oliver Street Fire

    March 9, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 5100 block of Oliver Street. Firefighters arrived to find fire blowing from the windows at the rear of the one story house. Crews determined the four occupants at home at the time of the blaze were already safely outside. Firefighters made entry and were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire in 8 minutes. The FWFD was able to rescue the family's cat and return it to the owners.   The home sustained moderate fire and water damage with heavy smoke damage throughout. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

  • Cedar Ridge Run

    March 7, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported residential fire.  First arriving crews found smoke coming from the siding area of the front porch of the two story home with some extension into the ceiling area of the garage.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames but extensive overhaul was required to ensure fire had not extended any further.  No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause is under investigation. 

  • Ramshire Lane Fire

    March 6, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire in the 8500 block of Ramshire Lane.  First arriving crews found a fully involved attached garage.  After determining the home's two occupants were already safely outside, crews worked to contain the blaze and kept in from spreading to the rest of the one story home.  The garage was a total loss but damage to the rest of the home was limited. No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

  • Palisade Drive House Fire

    March 5, 2015 - Neighbors called the Fort Wayne Fire Department to a possible house fire after they saw smoke coming from a neighboring home.  Crews arrived on scene in the 2700 block of Palisade Drive and found heavy smoke pushing through a window on the second floor of the two story homes.  Firefighters quickly determined no one was home and were able to contain and extinguish the fire in 8 minutes. The house sustained moderate fire and water damage with heavy smoke damage throughout.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Coliseum Blvd. S Building Fire

    March 4, 2015 -  The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 2602 Coliseum Blvd. S. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the two story building. Because of the level of fire involvement and size of the structure additional rigs were requested. Firefighters were able to make entry inside but were called out due to deteriorating conditions. Crews fought the fire defensively and were able to place it under control after 58 min. No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported. The structure sustained heavy damage. The cause remains under investigation. Both Pontiac St. and Coliseum S. were closed during the incident but were reopened approximately two hours later. The FWPD, TRAA, Communications and AEP assisted at the scene.

  • Cherry Creek Rd. House Fire

    March 4, 2015 -  Overnight, the FWFD responded to a reported structure fire in the 10000 block of Cherry Creek Road. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the two story home. Two adults and four children were able to safely self-evacuate prior to FWFD's arrival. Crews made entry and located the fire in a second floor bedroom and were able to extinguish it in 13 min. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

  • Drexel House Fire

    March 2, 2015 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2000 block of Drexel Ave. First arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the one story home with all eight of the home's occupants already outside. Crews made entry and found fire in a bedroom of the home. Firefighters were able to contain the fire and place it under control in seven minutes. The structure sustained minor fire and water damage and moderate smoke damage. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

     

  • Firefighter Nate Mills

    March 1, 2015 -  It is with great sadness the Fort Wayne Fire Department announces the passing of Firefighter Nate Mills.  Mills passed away this morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.  The family is asking for privacy at this time.

    “The Fort Wayne Fire Department mourns the loss of firefighter Nate Mills.  Nate fought this battle as he served this department:  with grace, dignity, courage and unwavering determination to make a bad situation better.  While he is no longer with us, he will undoubtedly be remembered by all who knew him.  The family is asking for privacy at this time, but please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”  

  • East Rudisill House Fire

    March 23, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 1025 East Rudisill.  Firefighters arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the two story residential structure.  Crews made entry and located the fire in the basement.  They were able to contain the fire and extinguish it in 17 minutes.  There were two people home at the time of the blaze, but they were able to self-evacuate prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported.  The home sustained moderate fire, water and smoke damage.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Wildcat Cove House Fire

    March 20, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 2500 block of Wildcat Cove.  Arriving crews found smoke coming from the basement of the two story home.  The home's occupant was already outside but did advise there was still a dog unaccounted for.  Firefighters quickly made entry, located the fire and extinguished it quickly.  Crews were also able to locate the dog unharmed and return it to the owner.  Investigators determined the home's owner was spray painting in the basement when the water heater kicked on and ignited the fumes.  No injuries were reported.  The structure sustained minor fire and water damage and moderate smoke damage.  FWPD and TRAA assisted at the scene. 

  • Kinsmoor Ave. House Fire

    March 16, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1800 block of Kinsmoor Ave.  On arrival crews encountered heavy fire coming from the front of the house.  Two people were already outside having self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  Firefighters made entry and located the fire in the kitchen area of the one story home and had it under control in nine minutes.  Fire Investigators determined the fire started as a result of a cooking mishap.  No injuries were reported.  The structure sustained moderate smoke, fire and water damage. 

  • Protective Coatings Building Fire

    March 6, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of insulation on fire in a building at Protective Coatings at 1602 Birchwood.  Additional callers reported flames and smoke visible on the roof area.  The first units arrived within three minutes,  entered the structure and located a small fire in the roofing material.  After some initial challenge to reach the fire because of its location, crews were able to extinguish the blaze in 28 minutes.  The structure sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage.  No injuries were reported as the 15 occupants safely evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  Investigators determined the fire was caused by workers cutting metal near the roof. 

  • Beaver Avenue House Fire

    March 2, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire after neighbors saw smoke coming from a house located at 4223 Beaver Avenue.  Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the basement and first floor of the two story home.  As crews entered the structure to attack the fire, they found a large hole in the floor of the first story.  Firefighters then found alternative entry points to gain access to the home.  The fire was located in basement and took 55 minutes to bring under control.  No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

  • Penrose Dr. Garage Fire

    March 2, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the 7200 block of Penrose Drive.  Crews arriving found smoke coming from the attached garage.  Firefighters were able to locate the source and quickly extinguish the fire.  Moderate fire damage was reported to the garage area with minor smoke damage to the rest of the home.  Four people and two cats were home at the time of the blaze and were able to self-evacuate prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Geiger Excavating Buidling Fire

    February 28, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported building fire in the 2800 block of W. Coliseum.  Upon arrival, heavy smoke was seen coming from a stand alone garage.  FWFD crews forced entry and located a fire in a paint booth in the garage.  The fire was quickly contained and extinguished.  Damage was minimal to the structure and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

  • Linda Drive Fire

    March 25, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to the report of a structure fire at 7327 Linda Drive.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the one story structure with fire venting from the back attic area. Firefighters made entry and were able to locate the fire in the attic and extinguish it in 14 minutes.  Investigators determined the fire started in the chimney.  The structure sustained moderate damage.  Four people were home at the time of the blaze and had self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  No injuries were reported. 

  • Fleming Ave. House Fire

    March 19, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to possible house fire after neighbors reported smoke coming from a vacant home in the 400 block of Fleming Ave.  Upon arrival firefighters made entry and located a small fire inside the one story home and were able to quickly extinguish it.  The structure sustained minor damage.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Miner Street Apartment Fire

    March 12, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at a triplex at 2504 Miner Street.  First arriving crews found smoke coming from the structure.  After making entry the fire was located in the rear of the first floor apartment.  The fire was quickly contained to this apartment, but the entire structure sustained smoke damage.  No one was home at any of the three units at the time of the blaze.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • N. Anthony Blvd. House Fire

    March 8, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 1130 N. Anthony Blvd.  The first arriving crews found smoke and fire coming from the front of the basement area of the one story home.  Firefighters made an interior attack and extinguished the fire in 18 minutes.  Eight people were home at the time of the fire and self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  Firefighters were able to successfully rescue three dogs.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

     

  • Saint Joe Road Structure Fire

    March 5, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at Mitchell's Sports Bar and Grill at 5607 Saint Joe Road.  Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames through the roof.  As firefighters fought to contain the fire to the original structure, the fire did begin to extend into a portico which attached the structure to the neighboring Piere’s Night Club.  Additional crews were requested and firefighters were able to stop the spread.  Piere's complex, including "Club V" sustained heavy smoke and water damage, but no fire damage.  A demolition crew was called to take down the original fire structure.  There were no injuries reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • W. Packard Kitchen Fire

    March 3, 2013 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) responded to a possible structure fire at 606 W. Packard.  On arrival crews found smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the two story structure.  The home's residents, one adult and two children, self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival.  Crews made entry and located the fire in the kitchen area of the home and quickly extinguished it.  Investigators concluded the fire was accidental in nature and caused by food on the stove.  The fire heavily damaged the kitchen area and resulted in smoke damage throughout the home. 

  • Cranberry Rd. House Fire

    March 21, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 7130 Cranberry Road.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke coming from the house and quickly located the fire in the kitchen area and reported some extension into the attic area.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and minimize further extension.  Two people were home at the time of the blaze and were able to self-evacuate themselves and their pets prior to FWFD's arrival.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • South Hanna St. House Fire

    March 18, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 4401 S. Hanna Street.  Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire on the front porch of the house.  Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to the neighboring homes.  One person, along with thier dog, were able to self-evacuate prior to crew's arrival.  One pet bird died.  The fire's cause remains under investigation. 

  • Bowser Ave. House Fire

    March 18, 2012 - Just after midnight, the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 4025 Bowser Ave.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke coming from the structure with fire in the kitchen with extension into the walls on the second floor.  Crews were able to contain and knock the fire within 27 minutes.  While no one was home at the time of the blaze, multiple cats and dogs were rescued.  The fire's cause remains under investigation. 

  • St. Joe Center Rd. Fire

    March 16, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the smell of smoke in a residence. With the home's occupant already outside, crews entered the structure and found fire in the attic area.  Responding units were able to contain the fire and bring it under control in 33 minutes.  No injuries were reported.  The fire's cause remains under investigation. 

  • Bridgetown Run House Fire

    March 14, 2012 - Fast acting neighbors called 911 Wednesday evening after seeing smoke coming from the attic of a known vacant house at 4435 Bridgetown Run.  The FWFD arrived to find smoke and fire in the attic area above the second floor.  The home was searched and no one was found in the structure.  The fire was quickly contained and extinguished.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

  • Reed Street House Fire

    March 9, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a possible house fire at 4318 when the homeowner smelled smoke.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the attic and the homeowner outside. Upon entry crews were able to locate the fire in the attic area and quickly extinguished it without further extension.  No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

  • Hessen Cassel House Fire

    March 4, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived on scene of a possible structure fire at 4217 Hessen Cassel Road with smoke visible.  Upon entry, fire was found in the kitchen area of the home.  Crews quickly contained the fire and extinguished it.  The homeowner had self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival and no injuries were reported.  The fire's cause was the result of unattended cooking and was accidental in nature.  The FWFD was assisted by TRAA and Fort Wayne Police. 

  • Deerwood Drive House Fire

    March 3, 2012 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2327 Deerwood Drive.  Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the gable vents.  All the home's occupants had already self-evacuated.  Crews entered the structure and found a working attack fire.  Firefighters were able to confine the fire and place it under control quickly.  The fire was investigated and determined to be accidental electrical in nature.  The family was assisted by the Red Cross.

  • Church Fire

    March 3, 2012 -  At 6:13 a.m. the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 210 East Jefferson.  Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke coming the lower level of The Glorious Church.  Upon investigation, the fire was determined to be in the basement in a back corner making entry and pinpointing its exact location difficult.  With more than 40 firefighters on scene, crews were able to gain control of the fire at 9:02 a.m.   In addition to extinguishing the fire, crews were able to salvage items from the first and second floor.  No one was in the church at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. 

  • Firefighters Read With Students

    Members of the Fort Wayne Fire Department volunteered to read to students during Read Across America, March 9, 10 and 11.  Crews from Station 8 and members of the Fire Prevention Bureau read to students at St. Joe Elementary School (6341 St. Joe Center Road).  Read Across Americais National Education Association’s (NEA) annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading. 

  • FWFD Service Awards

    City of Fort Wayne & FWFD honor firefighters and citizens with Service Awards

     

    The Honorable Mayor Thomas C. Henry and Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) Chief Peter X. Kelly honored firefighters and other local heroes Monday night, March 23, during the FWFD Service Awards at the Auditorium of the Public Safety Academy.  FWFD presented awards to nine firefighters for exceptional service on-duty; one Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) Officer; and four citizens.
  • Hoffman promoted to Captain

    Lieutenant Joel Hoffman will be promoted to the rank of Captain in the Operations Division today at 10:00 A.M. at the City Clerk’s office. Lt. Hoffman is a 9-year veteran of the Department and has received various commendations
