January 22, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire with someone trapped inside. When the first unit arrived on scene they found a two story home with fire coming out of the doors and windows of the first floor. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and searched the home. Fortunately, it was determined the two occupants of the home, one adult and one child, had self-evacuated prior to FWFD's arrival. One dog inside did perish. Crews were able to control the fire in 34 minutes. Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen when a pan of grease was left on the stove. The structure sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
