July 8, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the 1500 block of Cass Street. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a first floor window of the two story home. Fire had also extended up the side of the house into the attic area and was threatening a neighboring home. While some firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze, others were able to determine the home's occupants, one adult and one child had self-evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival. The blaze was brought under control within 12 minutes and no injuries were reported. The home sustained heavy smoke, water and fire damage. Due to its close proximity, one neighboring home's exterior siding sustained fire damage, too. Fire Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature caused by a juvenile playing with a lighter.
